Heat guns can help with shrink tubing, stubborn adhesive and some paint-removal work. The choice between fixed settings and variable control matters more than a dated price ranking. We compared manufacturer documentation for three corded US models; HandyTested has not physically tested them. Confirm the exact model, seller and current price before ordering.
Quick picks
- Simple two-setting tool: Wagner HT1000 (503008).

Which one fits your work?
Wagner HT1000: straightforward heat for occasional projects
Wagner lists 750 F and 1,000 F settings and two fan speeds for its HT1000. The manufacturer describes uses including paint removal and loosening stuck hardware. It is a practical starting point when an intermediate temperature is not essential. Wagner lists specialty nozzles separately, so check the contents of the exact package.
Best for: occasional DIYers wanting simple controls. Trade-off: no variable temperature setting for sensitive materials.

BLACK+DECKER HG1300: a supplied glass-protect nozzle
The HG1300 is another 750 F / 1,000 F corded choice. BLACK+DECKER lists a built-in stand and one glass-protect nozzle in the box, relevant if you work near window trim. The US product page lists 120 V and 1.8 lb. Do not mistake the stand for a fan-only cooling mode; follow the manufacturer’s cooling instructions.
Best for: buyers who value the included nozzle and stand. Trade-off: the two fixed heat levels limit fine adjustment.

DEWALT D26950: more adjustable corded option
DEWALT documents variable temperature control, a kickstand and overload protection. Its D26950 manual lists a 120-1,100 F adjustment range; the product page lists a fishtail surface nozzle and cone nozzle in the box. More adjustment can help when materials call for different settings, but it does not remove the risk of overheating a workpiece.
Best for: regular users who need intermediate settings. Trade-off: more control demands more care; the tool still requires a cord and safe cooldown.

How we chose
We checked manufacturer pages, support material and manuals for heat control, power source, included parts and continued product support. We did not measure nozzle temperature, airflow, heat-up time or durability. The old guide’s SEEKONE SK8058B specifications could not be corroborated for that exact variant, so it is no longer recommended. Its Milwaukee 2688-20 entry was mislabeled M12; Milwaukee identifies it as M18. We removed unsupported prices, ratings and workshop-test stories.
Before using a heat gun
Match the setting to the workpiece, keep the hot nozzle away from skin and combustibles, and follow the tool’s cooldown instructions. Paint in older homes can contain lead. The EPA’s DIY lead-safe guidance discusses precautions and heat guns below 1,100 F. A low setting is not a substitute for determining whether lead is present or using lead-safe practices.
Frequently asked questions
Is a higher maximum temperature automatically better?
No. The appropriate setting depends on the material and task. A variable control can help avoid excessive heat, but follow the tool and workpiece instructions.
Are these guaranteed to cost less than $80?
No. We do not have a live approved price feed. The old URL is retained, but the updated title does not promise a price ceiling. Check today’s seller and listing.
Can I use one for old paint?
Determine whether lead may be present first. Consult EPA guidance and local requirements before disturbing older paint.
